Greenworks Blog Team |

Make a stunning, rustic wood Christmas tree with just 1x3 boards and these Greenworks tools: the 24V 7.25" Brushless Circular Saw, 24V 18-Gauge Brad Nailer, and 24V Finishing Sander. Let’s get started!

DIY Christmas Tree

Materials

  • 1x3 boards (enough for the tree's branches and optional base)
  • Wood glue
  • Brad nails (sized for the thickness of your boards)
  • Sandpaper (medium and fine grit)
  • Wood stain, paint, or clear coat (optional)
  • Measuring tape
  • Pencil

Step 1: Sketch and Plan

  1. Decide your tree size (e.g., 1-3 ft tall).
  2. Create a layout for the branches:
    • Horizontal pieces (the "branches") will gradually shorten as they go up.
    • Optionally, add a sturdy base for stability.
  3. Mark your measurements on the 1x3 boards with a pencil.

Step 2: Cut Your Boards

  1. Use the Greenworks 24V 7.25" Brushless Circular Saw to cut the following pieces:
    • Cut List (point to point):
      • 1x 14 inches, with one 22.5° end and one 45° end
      • 1x 12 inches, with one 22.5° end and one 45° end
      • 4x 12 inches, with 22.5° ends
      • 1x 21 inches, with 22.5° ends
      • 1x 12 inches, with 22.5° ends
  2. Use the saw's adjustable bevel for angled cuts if you prefer a unique design.

Step 3: Smooth the Wood

  1. Sand all edges and surfaces of the cut pieces with the Greenworks 24V Finishing Sander:
    • Start with medium-grit sandpaper to remove rough spots.
    • Switch to fine-grit sandpaper for a smooth, finished surface.
  2. Wipe off dust with a clean cloth.

Step 4: Assemble the Tree

  1. Lay out the branches on a flat surface to check alignment and create a triangular tree shape.
  2. Start attaching the longest branch at the bottom, spacing each branch evenly as you move upward.
  3. Apply wood glue at each joint for added strength.
  4. Secure the branches together with the Greenworks 24V 18-Gauge Brad Nailer, ensuring the nails go cleanly through overlapping sections.
  5. If adding a base, attach the crisscross base pieces to the bottom branches for stability.

Step 5: Add Finishing Touches

  1. Apply stain, paint, or clear coat for your desired finish. Allow it to dry fully.
  2. Lightly sand between coats with fine-grit sandpaper for a polished look.
  3. Decorate your tree with ornaments, lights, or ribbon for a festive touch.
