Frequently Asked Questions

  • Does temperature affect my battery performance?
  • Lithium-Ion batteries are resilient to cold temperatures. However, we always recommend charging and storing the battery in a safe, dry, room-temperature environment. Long-term cold weather use/storage can allow the internal temperature of the battery to drop away. If the internal temperature of the battery drops below -17°C voltage output may be reduced, and battery communication may be affected. However, if a cold battery is brought back into a safe, dry, room temperature environment and allowed to warm up (should take no more than 10-20 minutes) then there should be no long-term negative impact on battery performance or lifespan. Please note that we recommend placing the battery on the charger after it has returned to room temperature to ensure maximum charge when in use.

  • Can this unit be used on gravel?
  • We do not recommend using our single-stage snow throwers or our snow shovels on gravel surfaces. Gravel, stones, or any loose surface material will be picked up and thrown by the snow thrower, causing damage to the unit and potentially nearby property and people.

  • What is the recommended ambient temperature range?
  • Snow throwers can be stored at any temperature if the environment is sheltered (indoors) and dry. Batteries and chargers should always be stored indoors at room temperature.

  • How large of a driveway can be cleared with this product?
  • Our single-stage snow thrower kits are often supplied with enough battery capacity to cover the average 4-car driveway. It is important to note that the overall run time received is ultimately determined by the load acting against the unit and will fluctuate.

  • How difficult are Greenworks single-stage snow throwers to assemble?
  • Our units have been designed for quick and easy assembly! The majority of single-stage units can be assembled in approximately 15 minutes. All instructions are clearly detailed within the owner's manual supplied with your purchase. If you should have any questions or concerns, we would be happy to provide assistance.

  • My chute is clogged with snow, what should I do?
  • Heavy or icy snow may cause the discharge chute to become clogged while in use. If you do get a clog, DO NOT attempt to unclog it with your hands or feet. Instead, turn your machine off and wait at least 10 seconds for it to fully stop. Then, use a chute-clearing brush or a similar object to clear the clog (not included). Operating Tip: If you notice that the chute is clogging often, try adjusting the angle of the chute and impeller speed (if applicable).

  • How far can the snow thrower discharge snow?
  • The distance that snow is thrown varies depending on the type of snow, wind, and angle of the chute deflector. Light snow will have a greater throwing distance in comparison to wet/heavy snowfalls.

  • Are skid shoes wearable parts?
  • Yes. Greenworks skid shoes are wearable; wearable parts carry a 90-day warranty against wear and tear.

  • What battery is compatible with this tool?
  • Only Greenworks batteries, chargers, and machines of the same voltage are compatible and interchangeable with one another. Please be advised that the higher the ampere-hour (Ah) rating is on a battery, the more run time it can provide.

  • Can it be used on slopes or hills?
  • Yes, this unit can be operated on slopes and or hills. Always exercise extreme caution when operating on slopes and ensure you have proper footing and balance at all times.

  • Can I put chains on the tires to prevent slipping?
  • No, the wheels on our single-stage snow thrower models are not designed for use with tire chains.

  • What are the benefits of having an adjustable impeller speed?
  • The benefit of having an adjustable impeller speed ensures that the unit can be used in a variety of areas and conditions. A lower auger speed usually translates to a smaller throwing distance - low speed also gives the user more control so that you can direct the snow where you want and avoid overshooting or re-covering previously cleared areas. When operating the unit at a higher speed, you can throw the snow further when the space allows and clear the area more quickly. Operating Tip: If you notice that the chute is clogging often, try speeding up the auger.

  • Do you make Gas Blowers?
  • All Greenworks leaf blowers are cordless, battery-powered blowers or corded. Greenworks does not make gas-powered models.

  • Is a battery powered leaf blower quieter than gas?
  • Electric and battery-powered leaf blowers – in general, are quieter than gas models. DB rating does depend on the model. Depending on the yard you intend to work on, the airflow coming from the device can be a primary factor as well.

  • What is more important MPH or CFM?
  • Both CFM and MPH have their benefits. It would depend on which type of blower you’re looking for. MPH is an abbreviation of miles per hour. This denotes the speed at which the air exits the blower. Higher MPH figures produce large pressure changes at the blower inlet. Therefore, a higher MPH is beneficial when looking at blower/vac units. MPH is usually the more important stat here as a higher airspeed helps move heavier debris. CFM is an abbreviation of cubic feet per minute. This denotes the volume of air displaced by the blower. High CFM units tend to move large air volumes at relatively low speeds allowing large areas to be swept and cleared in a controlled, shorter time. Therefore, axial blowers/dedicated blowers benefit more from a higher CFM and is more desirable for these units

  • What is the most appropriate blower for my property?
  • Generally, electric leaf blowers have a CFM falling somewhere from just under 200 to 400. If your property is an acre or more, you will probably want a leaf blower with a CFM between 400 to 700

  • Can I use my blower to dry my car or blow snow off my driveway?
  • We do not recommend using this blower for any task other than leaf blowing.

  • What is the difference between a hand blower and backpack blower?
  • Hand-held blowers are often less expensive than backpack blowers. They have smaller motors to ensure they're not too heavy to carry. Since the motor is smaller, they have less power. These blowers are great if you have a small yard, but can be taxing if you’re spending 30-40 minutes on the job. Backpack blowers provide more power, and you can carry them wherever you go. They have the added benefit of being more ergonomic since you are not relying solely on arm strength. Backpack blowers are better for tackling large jobs, but they’re also more expensive than the hand-held blower

  • How do I use the mulch function with my blower/vacuum?
  • When mulching leaves the Blower/Vac must be in TURBO-MULCH mode. Items such as small leaves and twigs will be mulched as they pass through the fan housing. We recommend emptying the bag after each use to avoid deterioration and obstructing air flow, which will reduce the performance of the mulcher.

  • Why is dust coming out of my collection bag while using my Blower?
  • There are tiny holes in the collection bag that are necessary for the operation of the Greenworks collection bag. These will allow very small particles of dust to pass through.

  • Why is my vacuum not collecting garden debris?
  • If your blower is not easily picking up the leaves, ensure that the nozzle is close enough to the leaves. Also make sure that the mode indicator is on the correct setting. Press the low/high switch to increase the speed options. The unique design of the blower-vac means that only light weight, low density objects such as leaves, and garden debris will be collected. It’s worth noting, higher density objects such as stones and sticks will not be collected. If you are finding the unit is still not picking up it may be necessary to remove the blower tube or mulcher tubes to clear a blocked tube or impeller. Please be sure to remove the battery or unplug the unit before checking the tube or impeller.

  • What blower can I use for Hard surfaces?
  • The best push power for removing heavy or wet organic materials from soft surfaces like grass, dirt or sand will come from a corded electric blower or from our 80V PRO blowers. The 80V 580 CFM Brushless Backpack Blower, with up to 580 CFM at 145 or the 80V 500 CFM Cordless Brushless Axial Blower with up to 500 CFM of air flow both units offer more CFM

  • What is the battery life and how do I maximize it?
  • To get the most life out of your battery, you should remove it from the charger once it has finished charging. The problem with overcharging is the potential damage to the battery which can shorten its lifespan and leave you in a lurch if it quits in the middle of a project.
